UPDATE ON LEGISLATIVE CHANGES - Chaired by Roy Lowe

Outline of the new approvals required for many DAs in addition to Council's approval under the new federal Environmental Protection & Biodiversity Act.

Presentation on proposed changes to NSW Coastal Development Legislation. Shortly, the State Government will consider a legislative package aimed at controlling Councils' ability to approve developments that block access to the beach, roads through sensitive coastal areas, caravan parks, and other developments affecting coastal river waters, estuaries, lakes and beachfronts.

The Water Management Act 2000 was passed by the NSW Parliament in December 2000. Most of the Act commenced operation on 1 January 2001. The passing of this Act represents the greatest legislative reform in water law that NSW has seen since early last century.
